Clay joined CAPTEL as Senior Account Director in November, 2024. He is responsible for managing political and association client calling and direct mail programs
Clay began his career at Stephen Winchell & Associates, where he played a key role in leading the Republican National Committee account, working closely with CEO Phil Smith during the Reagan and Bush (41) years. Clay then joined M.E. Lewis and helped found Lewis & Company, expanding his fundraising efforts for the RNC, NFIB and various nonprofit clients, furthering his expertise in delivering results for mission-driven organizations.
In 1985, Clay moved to Chicago, joining Leo Burnett USA. Over 15 years, he rose to SVP, Account Director, managing high-profile accounts for globally recognized brands like M&M/Mars, McDonald’s, Pillsbury, and Altoids. In 2002, he brought his skills to Omnicom startup Element 79 Partners, where he led accounts for Cricket Wireless, Lowe’s Home Improvement, and the National Hockey League. Since 2010, Clay has served as an independent consultant, delivering strategic marketing and fundraising solutions for clients primarily in healthcare and higher education.
A graduate of George Washington University, Clay lives in Evanston, IL, with his wife Sharon and their new black Lab, Leo.
